Montana Johnson Completes Nursing Apprenticeship
Gadsden State also recognized Montana Johnson for completing its Registered Nurse Apprenticeship Program.
The program allows nursing students to earn income while receiving on-the-job training. Participants work as student nurse apprentices with registered healthcare employers.
Gadsden State helped introduce one of Alabama’s first registered nursing apprenticeship programs in 2022. The college initially partnered with healthcare employers to combine classroom instruction with supervised workplace experience.
Program Offers Several Paths Into Nursing
The Gadsden State Nursing Program uses a five-semester, concept-based curriculum for students pursuing registered nursing careers.
Students receive classroom instruction, laboratory training, and clinical experience. The college also provides access to clinical sites, nursing equipment, and its Simulation Center.
After the third semester, eligible students may apply to the state nursing board for practical nurse licensure. Those who continue through the final two semesters can earn an Associate in Applied Science in registered nursing.
Successful graduates may then take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses. Passing that examination is required to practice as a registered nurse.
The college also offers a three-semester practical nursing program. In addition, its Mobility Nursing Program helps licensed practical nurses and paramedics work toward registered nurse credentials.
Gadsden State reports that the Alabama Board of Nursing has approved its registered nursing program. The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing has also granted the program continuing accreditation.
More information about admission requirements, available nursing pathways, and upcoming information sessions is available through Gadsden State’s nursing webpage.
