ROME– Rome-Floyd County Fire Department educators Shasta Farrer and Linda Patty have received the Georgia Public Safety Community Risk Reduction Program of the Year award.
Farrer is known throughout the department’s educational programs as “Scout.” Patty is known as “Goose.”
Department officials said the award recognizes their dedication, creativity, and passion for community safety education. Their work includes school visits, community events, safety demonstrations, and innovative outreach programs.
Through its fire and life safety education programs, the department teaches residents how to prevent fires, avoid injuries, and respond during emergencies.
Available programs address childhood fire safety, older-adult safety, special-needs preparedness, home escape planning, kitchen safety, and fire extinguisher use. The department also offers station tours and customized educational programs for community groups.
Officials said Scout and Goose have worked tirelessly to make Rome and Floyd County safer places to live, work, and play.
The department said the recognition also reflects support from firefighters, department leaders, schools, community partners, and local residents. Together, those groups help make community risk reduction a shared public safety mission.
Department officials thanked everyone who has supported the programs. They said the agency will continue working to save lives through education and prevention.
