ROME — Residents are invited to learn valuable child safety information during a free community event hosted by Scout & Goose on Friday, July 10, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Broad Street near the History Center.
The Scout & Goose Safety Pop-Up Event will focus on raising awareness about the dangers of hot cars and providing families with life-saving tips to help prevent heat-related injuries and deaths involving children left in vehicles.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), more than 1,000 children have died from heatstroke after being left in or becoming trapped inside hot vehicles over the past 25 years. The agency also notes that a child’s body temperature rises three to five times faster than an adult’s, making even a short amount of time inside a hot vehicle potentially deadly.
The event is designed to educate parents, grandparents, caregivers and community members on simple steps they can take to keep children safe during the summer months. Organizers will also provide complimentary popsicles for attendees while sharing important hot car safety information.
The family-friendly gathering welcomes residents of all ages and aims to combine safety education with community engagement in a fun and accessible setting.
