Etowah County Guardian Program Helps Locate Residents Who Wander

GADSDEN– The Etowah County Sheriff’s Office Guardian Program uses GPS technology to help deputies locate individuals who wander away from their caregivers.

When a family reports a participant missing, trained deputies can immediately access the person’s real-time location. Deputies then coordinate efforts to bring the participant home safely.

The Sheriff’s Office says deputies find many Guardian Program participants within minutes.

More than 45 Etowah County residents currently participate in the program. Families receive the tracking devices at no cost.

Grants, community donations and support from local foundations help fund the devices.

Families interested in the program may contact Investigator Trent Green. They may visit the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office at 827 Forrest Avenue in Gadsden.

Green can be contacted by phone at 256-549-2183 or by email at tgreen@etowahcounty.org.

Caregivers should immediately call 911 when a Guardian Program participant wanders away. They should also tell dispatchers that the missing person participates in the program.

The Sheriff’s Office accepts donations to help provide devices to more Etowah County families. Those interested in supporting the program may contact the Sheriff’s Office for additional information.
