The Sheriff’s Office, Animal Care, and Litigation – The County Commission Acts

Monday, June 22, the Cherokee County Commission approved several items. First they approved an agreement between the Board of Education, the County Commission, and the Sheriff’s Office to continue the School Resource Officer Program through September 2030.

Next the commission approved vehicle action related to the Sheriff’s Department to let bids for two Chevrolet Tahoes for the Sheriff Office from the 2027 fiscal budget. Later the commissioners approved the transfer of a 2016 Dodge Ram from the Sheriff’s Department to the Highway Department.

In other business Katie Lybrand was approved for the Animal Care Worker I position at the Cherokee County Animal Shelter.

The commission then moved to allow the Revenue Department to close out their books on insolvents, errors and taxes in litigation for 2025 and previous years.

After a few minutes in a closed-door executive session, the commissioners returned and authorized the commission’s attorney to join other entities in litigation against Lupin Pharmaceuticals as part of the ongoing opioid litigation.

The next Cherokee County Commission meeting is set for Monday, July 13th at 10:00 am.
