Born on June 14, 1945, in Leavenworth, Kansas, Henry displayed from an early age a deep fascination with how things worked. That curiosity grew into a remarkable career as a visionary engineer, inventor, and mentor. He lived a life defined by kindness, humility, and unwavering dedication to both his profession and his family. A brilliant and intuitive engineer, Henry approached every challenge with determination and creativity. His career was marked by innovation, leadership, and a lifetime of achievements that reflected his sharp mind and steady character. Over the years, he designed numerous pieces of equipment and secured multiple patents. Among his most notable contributions was a mechanism for dumping refuse containers in the waste management industry, as well as his final patent, granted on March 5, 2019, for a grabber used on front-loader refuse vehicles. Henry possessed an extraordinary ability to visualize complex 3D concepts and transform them into practical, tangible designs. Despite his many accomplishments, he remained humble, taking his greatest pride in the young engineers he guided and mentored.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Hund, Sr. and Alice Louise Billings Hund; his sisters, Barbara Hund and Donna Wedel; and his brothers, David Hund, Mark Hund, and Steven Hund; former wife, Judy Hund.

A devoted family man, Henry is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Hund; his children, Brenda (Ed) Clark and Ben (Leslie) Hund; his stepchildren, Cassandra Fuller, Jessica (Bobby) Landry, and Monica (Bubba) Phillips. He was the proud “Poppy” to ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, all of whom adored his gentle nature and endless patience. He is also survived by his siblings, Angela Mattingly, Paul (Doris) Hund, Kathy (Dan) Peters, Mary (Ted) Savage, Dennis (Pam) Hund, and Denise (Ron) Lunt.

Henry’s impact will continue to be felt for generations through the technology he helped create, the colleagues he mentored, and the family he cherished. His gentle presence, quiet strength, and deep love will be forever remembered by all who knew him.
