Oxford Police Investigating Shooting at Local Business

Oxford Police Make Arrests in Cheers Liquor & Tobacco Shooting Investigation
OXFORD- The Oxford Police Department has announced additional developments in the investigation into the shooting at Cheers Liquor & Tobacco that occurred late Friday night, including multiple arrests and one suspect still at large.
According to police, officers responded at approximately 10:30 p.m. on May 8 to reports of gunfire at the business located at 6 Hamric Drive West. Investigators said the business and two occupied vehicles were struck during the incident, and one person was shot. That victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and has since been released.
Police have now arrested 18-year-old Zakadyn Xiere Hawkins, of Madison, Alabama. Hawkins is charged with two counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle and is being held on a $30,000 bond.
Authorities also confirmed that two juveniles have been taken into custody and charged with first-degree assault. A fourth individual remains at large and is the subject of a pending first-degree assault charge. Investigators say they are actively pursuing leads to locate and apprehend that suspect.
The Oxford Police Department stated it is continuing to work with the Calhoun County District Attorney’s Office as the case moves forward.
Officials also emphasized their stance on violent crime in the community, stating, “If you come to our city to commit crimes, especially acts of violence, you will be identified, arrested, and held accountable.”
Police further commended the efforts of their investigators and officers involved in the case, saying they appreciate the dedication, professionalism, and tireless work of the Oxford Police Department in advancing the investigation and protecting the community.
The investigation remains ongoing.
