BIRMINGHAM— The National Weather Service in Birmingham is warning of multiple rounds of severe weather expected across Alabama from Tuesday into Wednesday, with threats including damaging winds and large hail.

In a Tuesday morning update issued at 1:38 a.m. CDT on April 28, 2026, forecasters said some thunderstorms earlier in the day may become severe, followed by another round of development during the afternoon. The timing of the afternoon storms will depend on how long morning activity lingers, with redevelopment possibly beginning as early as late afternoon in far western Alabama.

Storms are expected to move west to east across the state during the afternoon and evening hours. The main threats Tuesday include damaging wind gusts and large hail. Forecasters note the tornado threat is low, but not zero.

Looking ahead to Wednesday, the National Weather Service says storms are expected to redevelop again Wednesday evening as another system moves west to east across the region. The primary concerns with that round of storms include damaging winds up to 60 miles per hour and large hail.
