Centre City Council Tackles Extensive Agenda in Lengthy Meeting

During the regular meeting of the Centre City Council Tuesday afternoon, the Council heard from the Department Heads with their Quarterly reports for the 1st quarter. Police Chief Kirk Blankenship introduced Travis Keith, a new graduate of the Police Academy, as the newest member of the Department.

At the request of Brandon Thompson, the Council approved a Color Run for the CSAF as a fund-raiser for the organization. The Council also waived the regularly scheduled meeting for April 28th as the Council will be attending the Alabama League of Municipalities Convention. An agreement between the City and the Youth Football League was approved, a Zoning Adjustment Board variance was approved for Logan Bailey. The Council approved a Simple Grants work plan to apply for a $50,000 grant from the Alabama Power Foundation. If it is funded, the funds will be to upgrade the Basketball Courts at the Hatcher Community Center.

Paving is about to get underway with Northwood Drive on Thursday from the 4 way stop to County Road 69. Motorists are asked to drive slowly during this work and take an alternate route if possible. The Council also approved two more paving projects, Bay Springs Road and Jackson Street in the amount of $196,372.

The Police department asked for slings for AR15 Rifles in the Amount of $840 which were approved. The Fire Department is getting a new pickup truck for Fire Marshall Pace, which will come through the State Bid List from Stiver Ford. The purchase price is $60,370.

A New Video Sign for front of the City Hall was approved in the amount of $40,125 from T.L. Simmons signs and graphics. The Council approved a new website design in the amount of $3500 with a monthly service contract of $199, four new TVs were approved for the new City Hall in the amount of $3023, Internet service for the New City Hall was approved in the amount of $270 per month from Spectrum Business, a new phone system was approved in the amount $3587 with a monthly service fee of $224.95 and a new sign for the Community Center was approved in the amount of $5720 with the cost being split with the City paying $2000. An ice machine was approved to be repaired at a cost of $3570. An office in the Community Center was approved to be named in Honor of Nell Kilgore.

The next Centre City Council meeting is scheduled for May 12th at 5 PM.
