Prescribed Burn to Close Portion of Bains Gap Road in Calhoun County Today

CALHOUN COUNTY — A portion of Bains Gap Road in Calhoun County will be closed Thursday due to prescribed burn operations.

Officials say the closure will take place between the two gates on Bains Gap Road as crews conduct a scheduled controlled burn covering approximately 2,500 acres in the area.

The road is expected to be closed beginning at 8:00 a.m. and will remain closed until approximately 5:00 p.m. However, authorities note that the exact duration of the closure is not known at this time and could change depending on conditions during the burn operation.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while the prescribed burn is underway.

Prescribed burns are commonly used by land managers to reduce excess vegetation, lower wildfire risk, and improve overall forest health. Officials ask the public to use caution in the area and follow any posted road closure signs while crews carry out the operation.
