Cherokee County Commission Meeting (02/23/2026)

CENTRE, Ala.- The Cherokee County Commission approved several routine and infrastructure items during its regular meeting Monday evening.

Commissioners unanimously approved highway department bids for road work projects scheduled from March through the end of 2026. Contracts were awarded to Charles E. Watts for bituminous surface treatment, Wiregrass Construction Company for hot-mix asphalt paving, and Asphalt Paving Systems for microsurfacing seal coat work.

The commission also approved an updated county Emergency Operations Plan, allowing county leaders and emergency management officials to finalize and sign the revised document.

In other business, commissioners appointed District Three representative Andy Jones to the Cherokee County Industrial Development Authority to fill an unexpired term ending in January 2029.

No public hearings or citizen comments were held during the meeting, and officials reported no additional departmental updates.

The commission’s next meeting is scheduled for March 9 at 10 a.m.
