President Trump to Visit Rome Thursday as 14th District Special Election Continues

Rome-President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit Rome on Thursday, Feb. 19, the White House has confirmed, bringing national attention to northwest Georgia as voters cast ballots in the ongoing special election for the 14th Congressional District.

The White House said Trump plans to deliver remarks focused on affordability and the economy during the visit, followed by a stop at a local business. A specific location and schedule had not been publicly released as of press time.

Trump confirmed the trip during a press conference Monday, where he also referenced the race to fill the congressional seat vacated in January by former Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene.

“Well, we have a lot of people that want to take Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Greene’s place, and many, many candidates, and I have to choose one,” Trump told reporters. “They say whoever I endorse is going to win. But we have a lot of good candidates that want to take her place.”

The visit comes as early voting is underway in the special election. A total of 18 candidates are seeking the seat. If no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote, a runoff election is scheduled for April 7.

According to the White House, the visit is intended to highlight what the administration describes as its efforts to raise real wages and accelerate economic growth.
