Geraldine holds off Collinsville boys to win Class 3A, Area 13 basketball title

GERALDINE – Gavin Lang rang for 12 points and Sylas Adams added 10 points, but their efforts weren’t enough to lead the Collinsville Panthers past Geraldine in the Class 3A, Area 13 basketball tournament championship on Tuesday. The Panthers fell by the final of 46-38.

Mason McAteer managed seven points for the Panthers (17-6). Sam Stewart finished with five points.

Cooper Johnson led the Bulldogs with 24 points, including a 12-of-12 performance from the free-throw line. AJ Carter, Eli Schlagetes, and Braxton Franklin each finished with six points.

Collinsville held a 10-6 advantage at the end of the first quarter, but Geraldine forged ahead 19-12 at halftime. The Bulldogs maintained a seven-point lead after three quarters at 30-23.

Both teams advance to sub-regional play on Saturday. Collinsville plays at Area 9 champion Weaver, while Geraldine hosts Area 9 runner-up Randolph County. Weaver defeated Randolph County 62-47 in the Area 9 championship game.
