AREA BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT ROUNDUP: Lady Warriors suffocate White Plains 64-20

CENTRE – The Class 4A, No. 3 Cherokee County Lady Warriors jumped out on a 31-0 first-quarter run to earn a 64-20 victory over White Plains in the Class 4A, Area 12 basketball tournament on Friday.

It was the Lady Warriors’ 21st consecutive win as they improved to 28-2.

The win secured Cherokee County’s spot in Monday’s area title game against Alexandria, a 59-18 winner over Cleburne County in other tournament action on Friday. Monday’s title game is set for 5 p.m.

Marie Crane topped the Lady Warriors with eight points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Mattie Green and Taniya Fife both netted seven points.

Ava Martin, Macy Lea, and Brooklynn Bruce each contributed six points. Martin and Lea’s points came on a pair of treys. Jolie Alexander, Ellisan Givens, and Nevaeh Gaidurgis each finished with five points.

Brooksly Thielker led White Plains with eight points. Savannah Phillips finished with six points.

Sand Rock’s Lay sinks six treys in rout of Pleasant Valley

SAND ROCK – Molly Grace Lay sank six 3-pointers and finished with 25 points, six steals, and three assists to lead Class 2A, No. 4 Sand Rock to an 83-26 rout of Pleasant Valley in the Class 2A, Area 13 basketball tournament on Friday.

Maddie Clanton contributed 16 points and six boards for Sand Rock (21-10). Kaylee Burns posted 15 points, including a pair of treys, and six rebounds. Macey Pruitt managed seven points. Ashlyn McMichen and Ayva Davis both finished with six points.

Hanna Henry led Pleasant Valley with 10 points.

Sand Rock advances to the area championship game on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. against the winner of Saturday’s Gaston-Cedar Bluff game.

Collinsville’s season comes to a close at Sylvania

SYLVANIA – The Collinsville Lady Panthers’ basketball season ended with a 61-43 setback at Sylvania in the Class 3A, Area 13 girls tournament on Friday.

The Lady Panthers finish the season at 11-10. No further information from the game was available as of this posting.

Sylvania advances to Monday’s area championship game against Fyffe, a 63-41 winner over Geraldine in other tournament action on Friday.

Boys
Sand Rock’s Miller, Cleere too much for Gaston

SAND ROCK – Wyatt Miller tossed in 16 points and Will Cleere came away with 14 to lead the Sand Rock Wildcats to a 65-24 victory over Gaston in the Class 2A, Area 13 basketball tournament on Friday.

Miller also grabbed six rebounds for the Wildcats (19-11). Cleere also had three rebounds and a steal.

Grayson Lane rang for eight points and grabbed three rebounds. Jonas Browder connected on a pair of 3-pointers and had six points.

Thomas Snead, Bryson Murphy, and Creed Gillespie also scored six points each. Snead also came away with five assists, four rebounds, and two steals.

Brantley Pruitt tallied 10 points to lead Gaston.

Sand Rock advances to Tuesday’s championship game at 7 p.m. where it will take on the winner of Saturday’s Pleasant Valley-Cedar Bluff game.

Gaylesville’s season ends at Faith Christian

ANNISTON – Parker Robertson netted a game-high 26 points and Colin Anderson added 19 to lead the Faith Christian Lions to a 64-19 victory over Gaylesville in the Class 1A, Area 12 boys basketball tournament on Friday.

Robertson and Anderson both connected on three 3-pointers for the Lions, who advance to face top-seeded Jacksonville Christian on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Joshia Scott sank a pair of treys and finished with nine points.

Aydn Heinrich led Gaylesville with seven points,

Faith Christian held a 13-4 advantage at the end of the first quarter and built a 33-8 edge at halftime. The Lions led 56-12 after three quarters.
