Landfill Free Day Set for January 17 in Calhoun County

ANNISTON, Ala.– Calhoun County has announced its first Landfill Free Day for 2026, giving residents an opportunity to dispose of select materials at no cost while planning ahead for proper waste removal.

The Free Day is scheduled for Saturday, January 17, 2026, at the Calhoun County Landfill & Transfer Station, located at 3625 Morrisville Road in Anniston.

On this designated day, residents may dispose of the following items free of charge:

  • Appliances

  • Yard waste

  • Shingles

  • Scrap metal

  • Carpet

  • Remodeling and construction waste

County officials note that regular household garbage and tires are not included and will still require a disposal fee.

The landfill and transfer station operates during the following hours:

  • Monday–Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

  • Saturday: 7:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

  • Closed Sundays and major holidays

Drivers can access the landfill by taking Highway 109 (Bynum Leatherwood Road). From Highway 431, turn right at the second traffic light and follow Morrisville Road to the end. From Highway 202, turn left at the third traffic light and continue on Morrisville Road to the end.

County leaders encourage residents to share the information with neighbors and family members to help reduce illegal dumping and promote responsible waste disposal throughout the community.
