Verizon customers across North Alabama are reporting service problems as part of what appears to be a widespread wireless outage.

According to DownDetector, Verizon users began reporting issues around noon Tuesday. Within about an hour, nearly 200,000 customers nationwide had reported problems with the service provider.
DownDetector data shows about 66 percent of the reported issues involve mobile phone service. Many North Alabama customers say they have no signal and that their phones are displaying SOS mode.
Reports indicate the outage is impacting customers across multiple states, including Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, Texas, and others.
Verizon said in a statement posted on X that it is aware of “an issue impacting wireless voice and data services for some customers” and said teams are working to identify and resolve the problem. The company apologized for the inconvenience.
Other carriers may also be affected. T-Mobile and AT&T each had about 1,500 customers nationwide report issues with signal and 5G home internet service Tuesday, according to DownDetector.
