McCullough’s clutch trey lifts Gaylesville boys past Valley Head in Cherokee Invitational

GAYLESVILLE – Lucas McCullough hit the game-winning 3-pointer with 14 seconds remaining, lifting the Gaylesville Trojans to a 50-48 victory in the Cherokee Invitational at Gaylesville on Friday night.

Aydn Heinrich led the Trojans with 15 points. Hayden Dodd delivered 13 points and Bradlee Smith tossed in 10 points. Jack Sentell finished with six points and grabbed 18 rebounds.

Brayden Hughes led the Tigers with 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. John Dupree sank three treys and had 11 points. Ben Johnson also finished with 11 points.

Gaylesville led 14-12 at the end of the first quarter. The two teams were tied at 23 at halftime. The Trojans took a 39-38 lead at the end of the third quarter and held on for the win despite having three starters foul out in the fourth quarter.
