SAND ROCK – Shortly after Sand Rock’s area basketball game against Cedar Bluff on Tuesday night, Wildcat junior forward Will Cleere was approached by a young Sand Rock fan.
The young man asked for Cleere’s autograph, and Cleere happily obliged.
It could be the first of many signatures Cleere gives out to his fans if he continues having nights like he did on Tuesday.
Cleere collected 26 points, 10 rebounds, and two steals in leading the Wildcats to a 62-34 victory.
Cleere was one of four Sand Rock players to reach double figures. Wyatt Miller managed 12 points, 13 rebounds, two blocks, and an assist. Ty Traffanstedt tallied 10 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Jonas Browder finished with 10 points, including three 3-pointers, with five assists, two rebounds, and a steal for the Wildcats (5-2).
Sand Rock’s defense prevented any Cedar Bluff player from reaching double figures. Shon Gleen and Kyler Bradley both finished with nine points to lead the Tigers (5-5).
Sand Rock held a 13-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Wildcats broke the game open in the second, going on a 19-4 run to take a 32-14 advantage at halftime. Sand Rock’s lead swelled to 53-27 after three quarters.
Sand Rock plays at Cherokee County on Thursday. Cedar Bluff hosts Pleasant Valley in another area game on Friday.
