CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ala- As the busy holiday shopping season gets underway, Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver is urging shoppers to stay alert and take simple steps to stay safe during the rush.

Shaver says this time of year is full of bargains and traditions, but also a time to be mindful of your surroundings. He’s reminding shoppers to keep personal items close, lock their vehicles, and store bags out of sight.

The sheriff also warns about card skimmers and encourages everyone to cover their PIN at checkout. And with crowded parking lots expected, he stresses avoiding distractions—especially using your phone while walking.
