SPRING GARDEN – Brady Ruark ran for 143 yards on 13 carries and scored a touchdown. He also completed 4-of-8 pass attempts for 68 yards in helping the Spring Garden Panthers earn a 34-8 Class 1A, Region 8 football victory over visiting Gaylesville on Friday.
Ben Baker gained 108 yards on nine totes with two scores for the Panthers (5-3, 3-2). Clayton Sadler ran for 80 yards a touchdown on 12 carries.
Zane Edwards scored Spring Garden’s first touchdown on a 19-yard run with 10:26 to go in the first quarter. He finished with 39 yards on four carries.
Baker put the Panthers up two scores at 14-0 with his 36-yard touchdown run with less than a minute remaining in the first quarter. Sadler’s 1-yard score run with 6:53 in the second gave Spring Garden a 20-0 edge at halftime.
After a scoreless third, Baker ran for his second touchdown to open the fourth quarter. This one went for 26 yards, and it gave the Panthers a 26-0 advantage.
Gaylesville’s Jack Sentell prevented the shutout with a touchdown run with just under six minutes remaining in the game. The try for two was successful.
Sentell led the 15 carries for 73 yards and a touchdown. He also had 12 tackles on defense. Aydn Heinrich added 74 yards on 14 carries. Cole Hendon had 10 tackles on defense.
Ruark scored the game’s final touchdown on a 42-yard run. He connected with Erik Rule on the 2-point conversion for the final.
Bryant Williams led the Panther defense with 12 tackles.
Spring Garden travels to Ider on Friday. Gaylesville hosts Ragland.
