GAYLESVILLE – Gaylesville senior back Jack Sentell made sure the Trojans had a happy homecoming on Friday night. He ran for 137 yards on 18 carries and scored five touchdowns in Gaylesville’s 38-21 victory over Ider in Class 1A, Region 8 football action.
Sentell’s touchdown runs came from 4, 14, 38, 1 and 9 yards.
Aydn Heinrich added 116 yards on 17 carries with a 52-yard score for the Trojans (3-3, 1-2). Bryson Thompson tallied 62 yards on 10 carries.
Braxton Traylor led the Hornets (1-5, 0-4) with 123 yards on 15 carries. He was also 7-of-15 passing for 88 yards and two touchdowns, and had a 73-yard kickoff return for a score with 6:50 remaining in the first half that trimmed Gaylesville’s lead to 14-13.
The Trojans extended their lead to 20-13 at halftime, then outscored Ider 18-8 in the second half for the final.
Heinrich and Cole Hendon led the Trojan defense with 10 tackles apiece. Jared Butts made six stops. Sentell and Eli Smith both finished with five tackles.
Gaylesville travels to Spring Garden on Friday.
