Gaylesville falls short against Verbena 14-6

GAYLESVILLE – After battling visiting Verbena to a scoreless tie in the first half, the Gaylesville Trojans fell short by the final of 14-6 in non-region football action Friday night.

Verbena (5-1) took the lead with a touchdown on a fourth-and-goal coming out of halftime, but Aydn Heinrich tied the game at 6-6 on the Trojans’ ensuing drive. The Red Devils regained the lead in the fourth quarter on another fourth-and-goal, and converted on the ensuing 2-point conversion for the final.

Heinrich led the Trojans (2-3) with 75 yards on nine carries with Gaylesville’s lone touchdown. He also had a 14-yard reception and 11 tackles on defense.

Jack Sentell, who was returning from an injury suffered two weeks ago, had 11 carries for 48 yards. He also posted 10 stops on defense.

Jared Butts and Cole Hendon also recorded double digit tackles with 12 and 11 stops apiece. Timmy Dawson delivered nine tackles.

Gaylesville hosts Ider next Friday.
