First Responders Honored at Appreciation Cookout in Leesburg
LEESBURG — State Representative Ginny Shaver, the Alabama Forestry Association, and the Coosa Valley RC&D hosted a special appreciation cookout for area first responders on Thursday, August 21. The event, held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Training Center on Bristow Gap Road, was a gesture to thank the men and women who serve and protect the community.
Representative Shaver was kind enough to speak with WEIS News following the event:
The cookout saw a strong turnout, with representatives from various agencies including law enforcement, fire and rescue departments, emergency management, and medics. Service organizations and community leaders also attended, socializing and sharing a meal. Rep. Shaver also presented a $25,000 check to the Back the Blue Foundation.
Representative Shaver addressed the crowd, expressing gratitude for the daily selflessness demonstrated by first responders in their service to local communities. The gathering also included a drawing for door prizes from the guest list.
The event served as a way to show appreciation for the dedication of first responders, who are often called upon during a community member’s most difficult days.
