Cherokee County opens volleyball season with wins over Gordon Lee, Sand Rock

SAND ROCK – The Cherokee County Lady Warriors opened the 2025 volleyball season Thursday with a tri-match sweep over Gordon Lee of Georgia and Sand Rock.

The Lady Warriors rallied from a set down to take a 20-25, 25-23, 15-4 victory over Gordon Lee. Cherokee County then defeated Sand Rock 25-7, 25-13 in the nightcap.

In the win over Gordon Lee, Macy Lea posted 35 assists, two kills, and two blocks. Nevaeh Gaidurgis delivered 15 kills, four digs, two blocks, and an assist.

Mattie Green, Jolie Alexander and Ava Haygood each contributed seven kills. Alexander added a pair of digs. Haygood also had seven digs and an ace. Ellisan Givens posted 13 digs, two aces, and an assist. Jesslyn Hincy had seven digs and an assist. Raegan Garmany finished with a kill.

In the win over Sand Rock, Lea accumulated 16 assists, a pair of aces, a kill, and a dig. Gaidurgis came away with seven kills, a dig, and a block. Green gained four kills and a block. Alexander collected a kill, a dig, a block, and an ace. Haygood delivered four kills, a dig, an ace, a block, and an assist. Givens posted three digs and an ace. Hincy managed four aces and Garmany finished with two kills and two blocks.

Sand Rock (0-2) also lost to Gordon Lee. Those scores were 25-7, 25-16.

Caitlyn Lynch earned five kills and Emma Sipsy posted 11 digs to lead the Lady Wildcats.

Sand Rock plays in a tournament in Coosa, Ga., on Saturday. Cherokee County plays in the Smith Lake Classic Tournament at Curry High School in Jasper, also on Saturday.
