McCord’s Cross Roads Homemakers Club to Host 7th Annual Field to Fork Event Honoring Local Farmers
Centre- WEIS Radio was honored to welcome Mattie Williams of the McCord’s Cross Roads Homemakers Club to the studio Wednesday morning to share details about the upcoming 7th Annual Field to Fork event, set for Saturday, August 16, at 4 p.m. at 7290 County Road 16 in Centre. You can hear her interview here:
The annual gathering celebrates the hard work and dedication of farmers across Cherokee County and the surrounding areas. This year’s featured speaker will be Bob Plaster, Alabama’s Assistant Commissioner of Agriculture, who will share timely insights on sustainable farming and address nationwide challenges affecting food production.
The event highlights the many facets of farming, including fruits, vegetables, grains, cattle, poultry, fisheries, and composting through worm farming. It also recognizes the contributions of the Future Farmers of America (FFA), whose members attend annually to gain valuable information about careers in agriculture.
This year’s Field to Fork will also honor Edna Jo Jennings, the founder of the event and a longtime advocate for gardening and farming. While her absence will be felt, the organizers and sponsors are committed to continuing the celebration in her memory and plan a special commemoration during the event.
Activities and Amenities
Guests are encouraged to arrive early. The McCord’s Crossroads Fire Department will assist with parking, and Atrium Floyd EMS will provide golf cart transportation for those who need it. Vendors will be set up in the Hopewell Chapel Building, while other activities, including the meal and Mr. Plaster’s presentation, will take place in the Kerr Building. Door prizes will also be available.
The menu will include chicken, pork tenderloin, field peas, green beans, fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, homemade cornbread, homemade cakes, homemade cheese, and lemonade. A $12 donation covers the meal, and take-home plates are available by calling ahead.
Community Support and Involvement
The event relies on support from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department, the Honor Guard, the Chamber of Commerce, sponsors, and other community partners. The McCord’s Cross Roads Homemakers Club encourages anyone interested in joining to contact a member or visit themchc-hopewell.com. The organization serves the entire Cherokee County area and beyond, providing food, quilts, and assistance to those in need.
The 7th Annual Field to Fork promises great food, community fellowship, and a heartfelt tribute to the men and women who work tirelessly to keep communities fed.
