Town Of Leesburg Gets Good Financial Report

Mike Sewell of McClure, Sewell, Johnson & Associates gave the Town Council their Audit Report ending for fiscal year on September 30, 2024. The report indicated the Town has good revenues in cash on hand. The Town’s total assets were 1.8 million dollars with $1,340,000 in the bank. During the period the revenue was $1,481,000 with the expenses of 1.6 million dollars which is a $121,000 deficit. However, after the sale of property, the Town show a positive end of year with $115,000 to the good. Sewell told the Council, over all it is a good report and the Town is doing a good job with their finances.

The Council also heard from Laure Clemons with Extended Family Group presenting the Council with an annual report of the organization’s activities and accomplishments during the past year. Clemons asked the Council to consider Extended Family in the upcoming budgeting process.

The Leesburg Liquors has sold to Jerry and Loudin Harris who asked the Council for a letter to transfer the license to the new owners. The Council approved the request.

A resolution appointing election officers for the upcoming municipal election was approved. The annual ReBuild Alabama Transportation Plan was approved. The Council approved naming the Pavilion at the Leesburg Landing in honor of long time Council Member, Frankie Brewster, who passed away recently. Also, the Town will purchase a Bench with Brewster’s name on it for the front of the Town Hall.

Mayor Pierce told the Council the sewer project will get underway on December 1st, Leesburg Day is September 13th with the Gospel Concert featuring the LeFevres will be September 11th in the Town Park.

The next Leesburg Town Council meeting is set for September 8th at 5 pm in the Council Chambers.
