Rainbow City Fire Department Launches Cutting-Edge Ultrasound Technology in EMS Fleet
RAINBOW CITY, Ala. — In a groundbreaking advancement for prehospital emergency care, the Rainbow City Fire Department has officially integrated the Butterfly iQ+3 handheld ultrasound device into its emergency medical services (EMS) fleet — becoming the first service in Etowah County to deploy this innovative technology in the field.
The Butterfly iQ+3 is a compact, portable ultrasound system capable of delivering hospital-grade diagnostics at the scene of an emergency. Its capabilities allow paramedics to quickly assess internal injuries, detect collapsed lungs, confirm cardiac activity during cardiac arrest, verify IV placement, and conduct comprehensive trauma evaluations — all in a matter of moments.
“This is a major step forward in how we care for patients before they ever reach a hospital,” said Rainbow City Fire Department officials. “We are proud to lead the county in bringing this level of advanced diagnostics to the field.”
To ensure effective use of the new equipment, several members of the department will undergo specialized training in prehospital ultrasound use. This training will equip personnel to fully utilize the device’s life-saving capabilities, particularly in time-sensitive situations.
The department extended its gratitude to the Etowah County Commission for its support and financial contribution, which made the acquisition of this vital equipment possible.
“Partnerships like this are key to improving patient outcomes and public safety,” the department stated.
With the addition of the Butterfly iQ+3, the Rainbow City Fire Department continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to innovation, professional development, and excellence in emergency medical care.
