The Etowah County Sheriff’s Office is celebrating a remarkable milestone in public service — honoring Johnny Grant for 50 years of unwavering dedication to law enforcement and county government.

Johnny Grant began his career in 1975 with the Altoona Police Department and has since served under two District Attorneys, contributed to the Glencoe Police Department, and spent the majority of his distinguished career with the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office. Over the years, he has held key leadership roles including Chief of Detention, Chief Investigator, Chief Deputy, and now serves as Assistant Sheriff.

Throughout five decades, Johnny has helped shape the Sheriff’s Office through times of change and challenge, always putting the citizens of Etowah County first. His legacy is one of loyalty, leadership, and steadfast commitment to public safety.

Sheriff Jonathon Horton and the entire department extend their deepest gratitude to Johnny Grant — a true cornerstone of the agency — for his lifetime of service, mentorship, and dedication.

Johnny began his career in 1975 with the Altoona Police Department and went on to serve under two District Attorneys. He continued his commitment to public safety with the Glencoe Police Department, but the majority of his remarkable career has been spent serving the citizens of Etowah County through the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office.
Throughout the years, Johnny has held many vital roles within our agency — including Chief of Detention, Chief Investigator, Chief Deputy, and now continues his service as Assistant Sheriff.
Over five decades, Johnny has seen law enforcement evolve, faced down countless challenges, and helped shape our office and community into what it is today. His leadership, loyalty, and lifetime of service are unmatched.
