Rainbow City Honors Legacy of Medal of Honor Recipient with Special Proclamation Ceremony

Rainbow City, AL — Ms. Betty Mize was presented with an official Proclamation establishing the second Saturday of June as COL (Ret.) Ola Lee Mize, Medal of Honor Recipient, Tribute Day. The Proclamation, recognizing the enduring legacy of her late husband, was delivered by Rainbow City Mayor Joe Taylor.

Mayor Taylor, himself a former member of HHD, 1/20th Special Forces Battalion, emphasized the importance of honoring COL Mize’s heroism and lifelong dedication to service. The ceremony was attended by city officials, veterans, and members of the Mize family, all united in their gratitude and respect.

“It was an awesome ceremony for Ms. Betty Mize and her family,” one attendee shared. “Seeing her smile so big was the highlight of the day.”

The event was a testament to COL Mize’s extraordinary contributions—both on the battlefield and in the community—and a celebration of the unwavering strength of Ms. Betty Mize. The City of Rainbow City, along with the city council, expressed their profound appreciation for the Mize family’s sacrifices and legacy.

Special thanks go to Mayor Joe Taylor, the Rainbow City Council, and all who contributed to making the day a memorable and meaningful tribute. The new annual Tribute Day will serve as a lasting reminder of the courage, honor, and commitment embodied by COL Ola Lee Mize.
