Leesburg – The Alabama Bass Trail Northern Division rolled into Leesburg on Saturday, drawing over 400 anglers competing in teams of two. Despite less-than-ideal conditions—a cold front and rain throughout the day—many teams still managed to put together impressive bags.
A pair from Tennessee took home top honors and a $15,000 check. Nolen Spencer of Wartrace and Jonathon Reese of Fayetteville claimed victory with a five-bass limit weighing in at 20.44 pounds. Their winning bag was anchored by a 5.09-pound bass.
The day’s biggest fish, however, came from another Tennessee team. Tim Cunnings and Cole Walker of Counce landed the big bass of the tournament at 5.32 pounds, helping them secure a 10th place finish.
If you’ve been fishing Weiss Lake recently and came up empty, you’re not alone. Even with this high level of competition, nearly two dozen boats zeroed—unable to bring a single fish to the scales.
