GADSDEN– Gadsden police believe skeletal remains found in a wooded area Tuesday, October 20, are those of Kenneth Dupree of Gadsden.

In a statement released by Sgt. T. James Grimes, the Gadsden Police Department said investigators found no signs of foul play. Police also said they believe the death resulted from natural causes.

However, the department described the identification and cause of death as preliminary beliefs rather than confirmed findings.

Witness Report Led to Investigation

According to police, a witness contacted the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office October 20 after discovering what they believed were skeletal remains. The witness reported finding them in woods off Tuscaloosa Avenue.

Afterward, sheriff’s investigators contacted Gadsden detectives, and the agencies began an investigation.

Police placed the scene between Plainview Street and Tyler Street, near the dead end. WEIS previously reported that the discovery occurred near the 500 block of Tyler Street, behind Agricola Shopping Center.

At that time, authorities had not released the deceased person’s identity or details about the circumstances surrounding the death.

Meanwhile, police encourage anyone with information to contact Detective Josh Page at 256-549-4500.

The department also thanked the sheriff’s office, Etowah County Coroner’s Office, and Rainbow City Police Department for their assistance. Grimes extended condolences to Dupree’s family in the statement.
