FORT PAYNE– The Fort Payne Toys for Tots campaign begins its October collection schedule Friday as organizers prepare to help local children during the Christmas season.
The City of Fort Payne is asking residents to donate new, unwrapped toys to support children and families in the community. The first collection will take place at Walmart on Friday, Oct. 2, and Saturday, Oct. 3, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Another Walmart collection is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 16, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Fort Payne Toys for Tots Collection Schedule
Several additional Toys for Tots collection opportunities are planned during October and November.
A collection will take place at the Dogtown Roadblock on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 8 a.m. until noon.
Donations will also be accepted during the Fort Payne Halloween Block Party on Oct. 31.
Bruce’s Foodland locations in Fort Payne and Rainsville will collect toys on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 20 and 21. Those collections will run from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Residents who cannot attend one of the scheduled events can also donate at Fort Payne City Hall. The city accepts Toys for Tots donations there year-round from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
The campaign is requesting new, unwrapped toys. The city says each donation can help ensure a child in the community has a gift to open at Christmas.
Families Can Apply for Toys for Tots Assistance
Families who need help providing Christmas gifts can also apply for assistance.
The City of Fort Payne says Toys for Tots applications are currently being accepted through the DeKalb County Department of Human Resources.
DeKalb County DHR is located at 2301 Briarwood Avenue South in Fort Payne. The office is open from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
The department lists 256-784-4026 as its main number and Family and Child Services contact number.
The city’s Toys for Tots announcement does not list an application deadline or specific eligibility requirements. Families seeking assistance should contact DHR for information about the application process and current requirements.
