ANNISTON– The City of Anniston will unveil the Pieces of America 250th Community Mosaic on Saturday, Aug. 15. The public event begins at 9 a.m. at Noble Street Park.
Over the past several weeks, residents have helped create the large community mural. Children, parents, grandparents, friends, neighbors, and visitors painted individual tiles for the project.
Community Pieces Come Together
Together, those individual tiles now form one large work of art. Each tile adds a different piece to the finished mosaic.
Because local residents created the pieces, the mural reflects the Anniston community. It also celebrates 250 years of American freedom and history.
As a result, the finished mural represents both a national milestone and a local effort. Community members will get their first look at the completed work during Saturday’s unveiling.
Public Invited to Saturday Event
Meanwhile, city officials are inviting families and friends to attend the ceremony. Noble Street Park is located at 1102 Noble Street in downtown Anniston.
In addition, the project received support through a Semiquincentennial Community Grant. That support helped bring the community art project together.
Organizers designed the project around a simple idea: many small pieces can create one larger picture. Therefore, each painted tile plays a part in the completed mural.
Finally, Saturday’s ceremony will celebrate the people who helped create the artwork. The finished mosaic will serve as a community tribute to America’s 250th anniversary.
