CEDAR BLUFF– The Cedar Bluff community will answer a call of its own Saturday with a benefit singing for Fire Chief Steven Kimmons and his family.
The event will run from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Aug. 8 at Cedar Bluff Park, 3420 Spring St.
The afternoon will feature gospel music, food, a cake auction, and fellowship. Organizers are inviting residents to show their support following a worksite accident that injured Kimmons.
Support Follows 20-Foot Scaffolding Fall
Kimmons and a Cedar Bluff police officer were working for a construction company when the accident occurred.
Initial reports indicated that the men had fallen from a roof. However, updated information later clarified that they were on scaffolding near the roofline.
The men believed the scaffolding was securely attached to the structure. Instead, it came loose, sending the scaffolding and both men approximately 20 feet.
Emergency crews transported Kimmons by ambulance to a landing zone at Cedar Bluff School. A medical helicopter then flew him to UAB Medical Center in Birmingham.
The police officer was transported by ambulance to Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center in Rome. He received treatment and was later released to return home.
Tucker’s Chapel Fire, Cedar Bluff Police, and Atrium Floyd EMS responded to assist. Crews helped the Cedar Bluff Fire Department establish the helicopter landing zone at the school football field.
Gospel Music, Food, and Fellowship
Saturday’s benefit will bring several gospel performers to Cedar Bluff Park.
The musical lineup includes Jordans Shore, the Cedar Grove Baptist Church Choir with Pastor Cedric Williams, and The Hindmans.
Hot dog plates will also be available during the event. In addition, organizers will hold a cake auction as the community gathers around Kimmons and his family.
The message behind the benefit is simple: first responders routinely answer calls from people facing their most difficult moments. Saturday will offer Cedar Bluff an opportunity to stand behind one of its own.

The benefit is designed to be more than a fundraiser. It will be an afternoon for neighbors to offer their encouragement, share fellowship, and show the Kimmons family that they are not facing this difficult time alone.
