ALBERTVILLE– Albertville City Schools, the Albertville Police Department, and local community stakeholders will conduct active shooter response training at Albertville High School across four days in July.
The district scheduled the training for July 21, 23, 28, and 30. School officials say the program supports the district’s ongoing efforts to protect students, employees, and the community.
Training Combines Instruction and Realistic Exercises
Law enforcement officers and community stakeholders will receive classroom instruction before taking part in emergency response exercises.
The classroom sessions will cover active shooter response strategies, communication, incident command and coordinated emergency procedures. The exercises aim to strengthen coordination between law enforcement officers and school personnel.
Additionally, officers will take part in a realistic active shooter response exercise inside Albertville High School.
Trainers will use simulated ammunition to create realistic conditions during the exercises. The simulated rounds may sound similar to actual gunfire. However, participants will not use live ammunition at any time.
Community May Notice Police Presence and Simulated Gunfire
Residents and visitors may see an increased law enforcement presence at Albertville High School on the scheduled training dates. People near the school may also hear sounds from the simulated exercises.
Albertville City Schools stresses that officials planned and coordinated the activity for a controlled training environment. The exercise does not represent a threat to students, employees, or the public.
Superintendent Dr. Bart Reeves said regular training with law enforcement helps the district respond quickly and communicate effectively during an emergency.
“The safety of our students and employees is our highest priority,” Reeves said. “Regular training with our law enforcement partners strengthens our ability to respond quickly, communicate effectively, and protect those entrusted to our care.”
Reeves also thanked the community for its understanding and support during the training.
Albertville City Schools expressed appreciation to first responders, participating agencies, and community partners. The district said those partnerships help maintain a safe learning environment for students and employees.
