CALHOUN COUNTY-The Calhoun County Commission recognized several local residents and students during its meeting this week.
Commissioners honored Bill Wilson, a writer and photographer for The Anniston Star. Wilson earned Photo of the Year and first place for Best News Photo.
The award-winning photograph shows Robert Kilmartin touching names on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall at Centennial Memorial Park in Anniston. The image captures a moment of remembrance at the local memorial.
The commission also recognized Edwin “Skeeter” Sims. Sims was named the Mary Lou McNabb Master Gardener of the Year.
The honor reflects his dedication to horticulture, community service and the Calhoun County area.
Commissioners also celebrated seven Calhoun County 4-H students for their achievements in the 2026 Alabama 4-H State Horse Project Passive Events.
The students recognized were Anakate Tucker, Ellie Andrews, Skyler Reed, Lorelei Coefield, Makynna Nelson, Addisyn Nelson and Julia Clements.
The commission praised the students for representing Calhoun County through their creativity, dedication and hard work.
Calhoun County officials congratulated each honoree and thanked them for the positive impact they continue to make in the community.
