CENTRE – Jayshawn Stroup accumulated 205 yards on 17 carries and scored three touchdowns, and Tatum Perry completed 9-of-14 pass attempts for 170 yards and three touchdowns in leading the Cherokee County Warriors to a 42-7 homecoming football win over Brewer on Friday.
Stroup got the Warriors (2-1, 2-0 Class 4A, Region 8) on the scoreboard on a 46-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Hugh Miller’s extra point gave Cherokee County a 7-0 advantage.
Brewer (1-3, 1-2) tied the game at 7 in the second quarter on Cole Drinkard’s 5-yard touchdown run, but the Warriors scored the game’s final 35 points, beginning with JV Henderson’s 19-yard interception return later in the second.
Isaiah Young accounted for the Warriors’ next touchdown on a 28-yard pass from Perry. Stroup added a 76-yard touchdown run to give the Warriors a 28-7 halftime advantage.
Perry connected with Nate Black on a 3-yard touchdown pass and Keshawn Thomas on an 88-yard score for the Warriors’ final touchdowns in the third quarter.
Cherokee County travels to Guntersville on Friday.
