Alma Dixon passed away on June 30, 2026, at Atrium Floyd in Rome, GA.
Alma Ammons Dixon was born October 5, 1945, to the parents of J.P. Ammons and Alverlee Tiller Ammons. She attended Hatcher High School, graduating in 1963. Alma embraced St. Mark Methodist Church at an early age, then later in life she joined Bogan Chapel Methodist Church and was a faithful member until her health failed.
Alma was preceded in death by her parents, JP and Alverlee Ammons; sisters, Mattie Ruth Austin and Pauline B Ammons; brothers, Lamar and James Ammons. Above all, Alma will be lovingly remembered for the compassionate, round-the-clock care provided to her dear mother in her final years.
One would be remiss not to mention that she spent her life nurturing both people and plants, and was happiest with her hands in the soil. “Whether she was pruning, weeding, or simply admiring the morning blooms, Alma found peace and joy in the simple beauty of her flower garden.”
Alma worked hard for many years, in order to take care of her two sons, as a single mother, while working at Trend Mills and later, Pharr Yarns, until she took early retirement to care for her ailing mother for 9 years until her death. Alma will always be known for the poem readings she performed at numerous black history and other programs at St. Mark and Bogan Chapel Methodist Churches.
Alma’s family left to mourn:sons, Terrence and Joel Dixon, both of Cedar Bluff, Alabama, and special friend (daughter), Stephanie Freeman, of Rome, GA, along with a host of nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at Perry Funeral Home from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, with the funeral service to follow. Burial will take place in Cherokee Memory Gardens.
Perry Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
