Police chief Nathan Johnson updated the city council at their June meeting. Johnson reported that during the month of May the department made thirty-five arrests on forty-nine misdemeanor and five felony charges.
Officers conducted 1,051 total contacts with the public, 299 extra patrol and district checks with 667 officer initiated contacts while issuing forty-two traffic citations and working four traffic accidents. Dispatches were made on 327 calls, eighty-three of which resulted in a report being filed. Officers patrolled a total of 6,816 miles during the month.
The Dispatch Office received 1,439 phone calls in the month, dispatched 382 rescue call, eighty-one Piedmont Fire Department calls, and twelve after-hour utility calls. Court collections for the month totaled $9,561.80 and $4,914.50 were retained for the city of Piedmont.
Fire Chief Todd Kirkland reported seventy-eight incidents involving the Piedmont Fire Department. Kirkland stated that fifty-seven of these were labeled as medical issues. Chest pain, breathing problems, falls, and diabetic concerns constituted most of these incidents.
The department reported that the other twenty-one incidents were given the following labels: public service (12), hazardous situations (4), non-emergencies (3), and fire (2).
The next Piedmont City Council Meeting is set for July 7 at 5:30 pm in the Council Chambers.
