Human Remains Found Near Anniston-Oxford City Limits; Missing Oxford Man Believed Identified

ANNISTON — Human remains discovered Monday afternoon near the Anniston-Oxford city limits are believed to be those of a missing Oxford man, according to the Anniston Police Department.

Authorities said the remains were found on June 15 in an overgrown area a short distance off the roadway along South Quintard Avenue near the city limits.

Based on items recovered at the scene, investigators believe the decedent is Howard Patrick Brown Jr., 58, of Oxford. Brown was reported missing on June 7, and Anniston Police investigators have been actively investigating his disappearance since that time.

Officials said there are currently no immediate signs of foul play. However, the remains have been transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville for an autopsy and positive identification.

The Anniston Police Department stated that there is no known threat to the public at this time.

Authorities expressed their condolences to Brown’s family and loved ones as the investigation continues.

The department also thanked the Anniston Fire Department, Oxford Police Department, Calhoun County Coroner’s Office, and the Calhoun County District Attorney’s Office for their assistance in the case.

Anyone with information regarding the investigation is encouraged to contact the Anniston Police Department Investigative Division at 256-240-4000.

The investigation remains ongoing.
