McCord’s Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department Chief Rich Lindsey has been appointed by Governor Kay Ivey to serve on the Board of Commissioners of the Alabama Firefighters Annuity and Benefit Fund. Lindsey will serve as the consumer representative on the five-member board, filling the seat previously held by Richard Pugh.

The Alabama Firefighters Annuity and Benefit Fund provides retirement, disability, and survivor benefits to firefighters, both volunteer and career, across the state. The Board of Commissioners is responsible for overseeing the administration, financial stewardship, and long-term stability of the fund while ensuring benefits are provided in accordance with Alabama law.

Chief Lindsey brings more than two decades of service to the position. He has dedicated the last 23 years to serving his community as a volunteer firefighter where he has served in various leadership roles. He currently serves as Chief of the McCord’s Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department, a role he has filled for the past 15 years. Lindsey also serves as an alternate director to the Alabama Association of Volunteer Fire Departments and oversees the administration of the Cherokee County Public Safety Communications System. Throughout his career, Lindsey has been a strong advocate for volunteer departments.

I look forward to representing all of Alabama’s firefighters and helping ensure that the fund remains strong and sustainable.”

Chief Lindsey also noted that fire departments face historic staffing shortages. He expressed hope that the fund will continue to grow, aiding departments recruit and retain the dedicated professionals needed to protect communities statewide.

As a commissioner, Lindsey will help oversee fund operations, review benefit matters, adopt policies and administrative rules, and provide fiduciary oversight of the fund’s assets. His appointment reflects a commitment to supporting Alabama’s fire service community and safeguarding the benefits earned by firefighters throughout the state.
