City of Anniston Mourns Passing of Football Standout Orlando Watters

ANNISTON — The City of Anniston joins the community in mourning the passing of Anniston High School football standout Orlando Watters, a former Bulldog whose athletic achievements left a lasting mark on the city and beyond.

Watters, a proud son of Anniston, is remembered as one of the defining figures of Anniston High School football during a celebrated era for the program. As a standout athlete, he helped sustain a tradition of excellence that inspired teammates, classmates, coaches, and generations of young athletes who followed.

Following his high school career, Watters went on to play college football at the University of Arkansas, where he became a three-year letterman and earned First-Team All-SEC honors in 1993. He later continued his football career at the professional level with the Seattle Seahawks in 1994, representing Anniston on one of the sport’s biggest stages.

His accomplishments were later honored with induction into the Calhoun County Sports Hall of Fame, recognizing his talent, dedication, and lasting impact on local athletics.

Beyond his accomplishments on the field, Watters is remembered as a symbol of what can emerge from Anniston — strength, discipline, pride, and excellence. His legacy continues to serve as an example for young athletes in the community who look to his story as proof of what determination can achieve.

The City of Anniston extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, former teammates, classmates, coaches, and all who knew and loved him. Anniston will long remember Orlando Watters and the legacy he leaves behind.
