Gadsden Regional Medical Center On Temporary Diversion Until Further Notice

WEIS Radio News received information this afternoon that Gadsden Regional Medical Center is on diversion until further notice. This means they are not receiving patients from other hospitals and ambulances.

Our News Staff on the scene this afternoon said each entrance to the facility near the Emergency Room is closed with staff there to keep everyone out.

We reached out the hospital management and they issued this statement:

Statement from Gadsden Regional Medical Center

Today, a patient arrived at our Emergency Department with symptoms that could be associated with Ebola, but these symptoms are also linked to many other health conditions. Although it is highly unlikely the patient has been exposed to Ebola, in an abundance of caution, we are working with the CDC and other public health authorities and taking all necessary precautions to isolate and evaluate the patient. We have also taken steps to ensure the safety of our staff and patients.

Our Emergency Department is on temporary diversion for ambulances, but remains open to patients who need us.

This is a developing story and we will update the information when it is available.
