Anniston Police Department Receives 40 Breath Testing Units Through Impaired Driving Grant Program

ANNISTON — The Anniston Police Department is expressing appreciation to a number of state and local partners after receiving 40 Preliminary Breath Test (PBT) units through the Impaired Driving Grant program.

Officials say the funding was made possible through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and administered in Alabama by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA), under the direction of Governor Kay Ivey.

The new equipment will be used by officers on patrol to help identify impaired drivers and enhance roadway safety throughout the Anniston community.

The department specifically recognized the Franklin County Commission; the North Alabama Highway Safety Office; Eddie Russell, Director of the North Alabama Highway Safety Office; Lynne Wilman, Unit Chief with ADECA’s Law Enforcement Traffic Safety Division; and Clint Harrell, Director of the Regional Highway Traffic Safety Office at Central Alabama Community College, for assisting with coordination, logistics, and implementation of the program.

Officials with the Anniston Police Department say the additional PBT units will strengthen enforcement capabilities and support ongoing efforts to reduce impaired driving incidents and improve public safety on local roadways.
