SO-COOL Camp Returns for 2026 Summer Session in Centre

CENTRE — The SO-COOL (School’s Out – Camp of Organized Learning) program will return this summer, offering a free, structured day camp for children ages 8 to 12 from June 1 through June 26, 2026.

The long-running program, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Centre for more than 30 years, will be held Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Centre Elementary School old gym.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided daily through the Cherokee County Schools Summer Feeding Program, while daily snacks will be supplied through community donations. Financial support for the camp is also provided by the City of Centre and the Cherokee County Commission, along with contributions from local businesses.

Camp organizers say the program offers a wide range of activities designed to combine education, recreation, and community engagement. Daily programming includes sports, crafts, music, educational sessions, and guest speakers. Additional planned activities include Vacation Bible School at Pine Grove Baptist Church, swimming at the Centre City Pool, a talent show, inflatables, and other recreational events.

The camp is directed by Nancy Steed, who can be reached at 256-438-3400 for additional information. Staff members include college-age workers along with a representative from CED.

Registration forms are available at SO-COOL, and parents are asked to complete them on the first day a child attends the program.
