Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, District Attorney Summer Summerford to Host Citizens Firearms Safety and Training Course

 

LEESBURG-The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with District Attorney Summer Summerford, will host a Citizens Firearms Safety and Training Course later this month, offering community members an opportunity to receive firearm safety education and hands-on range training.

Organizers said the course is designed to promote responsible firearm ownership, firearm safety awareness, and practical training for citizens throughout the community.

The classroom portion of the course will be held Tuesday, May 12, 2026, beginning at 4:00 p.m. The class will feature instruction with District Attorney Summer Summerford and will take place at the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Training Center, located at 1025 Bristow Gap Road in Leesburg.

Participants who complete the classroom seminar will then be eligible to attend the live-fire range session scheduled for Thursday, May 14, 2026. Multiple two-hour range session time slots will be available throughout the day to accommodate participants.

Available range times include:

  • 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
  • 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
  • 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
  • 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
  • 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Officials noted that participants must attend the classroom seminar in order to participate in the range training portion of the course.

The event is sponsored by Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver and District Attorney Summer Summerford.
