Kayaker Rescued From Weiss Lake

Tense Moments When Male Subject Falls Out of Kayak

Saturday afternoon, Central Dispatch received a call about a male subject falling out of a Kayak behind the Weiss Mart Marina in Cedar Bluff. He was not wearing a life vest but was attempting to swim to shore.

The Cedar Bluff Police and Fire Departments were called to the scene along with the Cherokee County Rescue Squad, and the Alabama Marine Police. The incident occurred about 4:05 with the Rescue Squad and Alabama Marine Police arriving about the same time at. The Marine Police officer managed to pull the male subject from the water to safety and transported him to shore to be checked out by the Atrium Floyd EMS.

Thankfully, this situation turned out well but would not have been an issue if the kayaker had been wearing a safety device. As we enter the summer boating season, WEIS Radio News reminds everyone to follow the safety rules to always wear a safety vest when on the water for a safe time on the Lake.
