Dense Fog Advisory Issued for Much of Central Alabama Through Wednesday Morning

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Dense Fog Advisory for a large portion of Central Alabama, warning that hazardous travel conditions are expected through Wednesday morning.
According to the advisory, visibility may be reduced to one-quarter mile or less in areas of dense fog, creating dangerous conditions for motorists. The advisory went into effect Tuesday evening and remains active until 9 a.m. CST on Wednesday, January 7.
Counties included in the advisory span much of the region and include Autauga, Bibb, Blount, Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Chilton, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, Etowah, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Marion, Montgomery, Perry, Pickens, Randolph, Shelby, St. Clair, Sumter, Talladega, Tallapoosa, Tuscaloosa, Walker, and Winston.
Cities likely to be affected include Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Montgomery, Gadsden, Anniston, Centre, Jasper, Selma, Clanton, Alexander City, Auburn, Opelika, Hoover, Pell City, Talladega, Sylacauga, Demopolis, Eutaw, and surrounding communities.
The National Weather Service cautions that low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous, particularly during the overnight and early morning hours. Drivers are urged to slow down, use headlights, and allow extra distance between vehicles.
Residents are advised to remain alert for rapidly changing conditions and to use caution when traveling until fog dissipates later Wednesday morning.
