Two Dead, Suspect in Custody After Sunday Evening Shooting in Fort Payne

FORT PAYNE, Ala. — Two people are dead, and a suspect is in custody following a shooting Sunday evening on Alabama Avenue Northwest in Fort Payne.
According to Fort Payne Police, officers responded to reports of gunfire shortly before 6 p.m. in the 1300 block of Alabama Avenue NW. When officers arrived, they discovered two victims — one man and one woman — who had been fatally shot.
Authorities say the shooting appears to have stemmed from a domestic dispute. The suspect fled the scene but was later apprehended in a neighboring jurisdiction. Police have not yet released the names of the victims or the suspect, pending notification of family.
Fort Payne Police expressed sympathy for the victims’ families and thanked responding officers and neighboring agencies for their assistance in the swift apprehension of the suspect.
Police are asking the public to continue avoiding the area as investigators process the scene.
