During the regular meeting of the Cherokee County Commission Monday afternoon, Sierra Wilks, Jail Administrator, was recognized by the Commission and Sheriff Jeff Shaver. Wilks was recently named as Jail Administrator of Year by the National Institute for Jail Operations. Sheriff Shaver presented her with a plaque commemorating her accomplishment.

James Lowery, EMA Volunteer, was recognized for his 35 years of Volunteer Service. EMA Director Shawn Rogers presented Lowery with a plaque for his dedication and service to the County through the EMA.

Dean Buttram Sr.presented the Commission with a donation for the County Animal Shelter. Buttram thanked the Commission for their steadfast support for Animal Welfare. The Commission recently approved more than a million dollars for a spacious building to be renovated for the Cherokee County Animal Shelter. Buttram and his wife, Kathy, said they intend to make annual contributions for the next 4 years.

In Regular business, the Commission reappointed Grant Ratliff, Teresa Frye, and Brad Jacoway to the County Department of Human Resources Board.
A Training Agreement with the National Institute for Jail Operations was approved for the Sheriff’s Department and a 2024 Dodge Durango was declared as surplus to be sold at the next available public auction.
The next meeting of the Cherokee County Commission will be on November 10th at 10am.
